Traction case study
“Our fleet of 55 heavy motor vehicles includes flat decks, curtainsiders and tankers as we do a lot of work in the dairy, wine and energy sectors. We’ve got between 50 to 120 staff depending on the time of the year, servicing from Auckland to Canterbury.
We first completed Traction two years ago, and in that short time we’ve already seen improvements in areas that were highlighted initially. This included some quick wins that have had a positive result, and staff feel good knowing their feedback is heard and improvements are implemented.
Communication has been the biggest area of improvement that we received through feedback in Traction. Now we record notes in daily dispatch meetings and ensure this information is getting out to our driver teams.
We are also looking into new roster technology as a result of staff feedback. It’s difficult as sometimes we don’t see some drivers for weeks on end face to face, so we’re really reliant on dispatch to keep the communication channels open. Putting more emphasis on keeping our entire company up to date with crucial information has really improved morale.”By Jane Symons - HSEQ Manager
